The Emmy Award nominated singer/songwriter Sheree Brown is best remembered in the UK for her 1981 single "It's A Pleasure".  She holds multiple gold and platinum record distinctions for "Groove Thang" sampled by Zhane, and songs co-written with Grammy nominated composer and multi-instrumentalist Patrice Rushen ("Haven't You Heard" was a #1 hit sampled by Kirk Franklin).

The upcoming Messages From The Soul…The Power of Music album is a vibrant fusion of Rare Grooves, Soul, R&B, Gospel, Funk, and Jazz. Rooted in Sheree Brown’s Los Angeles heritage and inspired by the soulful dance scenes of London and Europe, this collection is a heartfelt tribute to the power of music.

The album opens with the uplifting track “Gonna Rock (Bop Bop),” a vibrant celebration of carefree determination to embrace life’s gifts. As the lead single, it perfectly sets the tone for the collection, radiating joy and an unwavering commitment to positivity. Sheree delights in sharing that her husband of 45 years plays trombone on the track. Messages From The Soul…The Power of Music celebrates the profound bond between artist and audience, paying tribute to the listeners who have embraced Sheree’s work and left an indelible mark on her journey.

At a time when the world is in need of upliftment, the album stands as a sonic beacon of hope, encouragement, and inspiration. Featuring original compositions, with writing contributions from Grammy-nominated songwriter, producer and artist Patrice Rushen, Marcus Pettit, Sheree’s daughter MayaNicol and son Revels, alongside a striking new ‘House’ mix of the original track “Power” by by songwriter, producer, musician, and engineer Steve Barry Cohen from Lake Transfer Productions. The album serves as a companion to the third and final installment of the Messages book trilogy, Messages From The Soul, authored by Sheree’s husband, Douglass Johnson, Sr.

This powerful book shares real-life stories of men overcoming life’s challenges, further reinforcing the theme of resilience and transformation. Reflecting on music’s timeless influence, Sheree recalls: "During the summer of 1971, when I was in high school, you couldn’t walk down the street without hearing Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On drifting through the air. That album was a soundtrack of hope and inspiration, crossing all cultural boundaries.”

Now, in a different era, that same spirit lives on. Messages From The Soul…The Power of Music unites Sheree, a team of seasoned creatives, and a new generation of talent in a collaborative effort to create music that resonates across time. Sheree is currently promoting her "Messages From The Spirit ... The Collective book project which includes a CD with music dedicated to young adult women who tell their life changing stores.  It includes encouraging messages to all and music designed to uplift the spirit and touch one's heart.

It's the joy that comes with sharing her music that continues to inspire Sheree to do what she does musically.  It is the giving of music which is universal that allows her to share her heart.

Messages From The Spirit - Special Edition Vinyl LP.

The original "Messages From The Spirit…The Collective" album was released on Expansion Records (UK) in 2020, preceding the anthology that inspired the music. This project was a true labor of love and produced the #1 single “Take A Walk With Love” on the UK Soul Charts. (This is the second installment in the "Messages" trilogy.)

Then came COVID-19, and we were unable to officially launch the accompanying book, "Messages From The Spirit".

Today, I’m thrilled to present this special vinyl edition to celebrate life, reconnect with some of my personal favourites from the original album, and highlight guest artists featured on Side Two. Additionally, this vinyl release spotlights one of my favourite songs from the first album in the trilogy, "Messages From The Heart…An Extension of Love", also released on Expansion Records, accompanied by its own anthology.

This album also previews a track from the upcoming "Messages From The Soul" album, the final chapter in the trilogy, with music inspired by a new anthology of the same name, edited by my husband Douglass R. Johnson Sr. Like the previous books, it shares powerful stories of overcoming life’s challenges, with the music dedicated to those journeys.

“I Choose Love (Redwine Remix)” is a reimagining of the original song, co-written by myself and Patrice Rushen. This remix will be released separately as a single by Jon Redwine, known for his work on Tinashe’s 2014 platinum hit “2 On” and his leadership at RedSound Music Group. Collaborating with Redwine—a talented musician, songwriter, and producer who’s worked with artists like Zendaya and Chris Brown—was an absolute joy.

While we may still carry some scars from the trauma of the pandemic, music has the power to heal. This album is my gift to you—and to myself—as I continue to choose love.
